Aspect of Dread

Your bloodline is associated with Ill omens and malevolent tithing.

Level 3: Harbinger

Once per turn when you hit a creature with a catalyst, you can spend 2 Heat to force it to make a Wisdom saving throw. One a failed save, it has the Frightened condition until the end of your next turn. The first time you hit a Frightened creature each turn, deals an additional 1d4 Necrotic damage.

Level 3: Stolen Vitality

When you finish a Long Rest, and when you gain Heat from Last Regrets, you gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Charisma modifier plus one roll of your Heat Dice.

Level 6: Catalyst – Dread

You gain the aspect catalyst – Dread, found at the bottom of the catalyst list. This catalyst doesn’t count towards your total number of catalysts and you can’t replace it when you level up.

Level 6: Ends are a Beginning

As a Magic action you can capture lost sentiments from a Humanoid you touch that died within the last hour. Your spirits absorb their fleeting emotions and hold them for 24 hours. While the spirits hold these feelings you can release them in either of the following ways:

  • Recall. As a Magic action, you can ask the spirits about one memory from the departed creatures life. The spirits have access to it’s memory but don’t necessarily divulge implications or tangential details outside of what they directly observe from the memory.
  • Ejection. When you fail a Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma saving throw, you can take a Reaction to eject the spirit and succeed instead. When you eject a spirit this way you take Necrotic damage equal to two rolls of your Heat Die. This damage cannot be reduced in any way.
Using either of these effects releases the spirit permanently. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

Level 10: Omen of the End

Your Battle Fever is enhanced. While it is active you gain the following additional benefits:

  • Cold Retort. When a creature hits you with a melee attack, it takes Necrotic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
  • Gathered Breath. When you use Rekindle, you can choose to gain Temporary Hit Points instead of Hit Points. When you do, the triggering creature takes Necrotic damage equal to the amount gained.
  • Necrotic Shroud. You gain Resistance to Necrotic damage, and damage from your catalyst attacks and Fury features ignores Resistance to Necrotic damage.

Level 14: The Bell Tolls

when you manifest the aspect catalyst – Dread you can spend 2 Heat to sweep the scythe in an ephemeral motion. Each creature of your choice within a 10-foot Emanation originating from you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes Necrotic damage equal to one roll of your Heat Die and has the Frightened condition until the end of your next turn. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage only.

Each time you use this feature, it’s cost in Heat increases by two until you finish a Short or Long Rest.
